NINE PEACHES
This pattern is famous for its good omen. There are nine peaches and leaves painted in soft colors. The peach symbolizes 'longevity' and the Chinese word 'nine' is phonetically the same as 'perpetually'. Against the white porcelain, the pattern stands out most beautifully. It is an exceptionally nice work.
Antique porcelain wares are becoming scarce. Therefore, these soft colored porcelain wares made in Qing Dynasty are sold at surprisingly high prices in world-wide auctions. For example, in November 1989, a famille rose vase (16 ½" tall) with mark and period of Yongzhen was auctioned at the Sotheby's, Hong Kong, and was sold for US $1,560,000 (auction Lot No. 302).
