Chinese Porcelain 101 - Celadon
Celadon gazed porcelain wares could be traced as early as the times of the Warring States and Spring and Autumn. Its development continued up to the Northern Song and Southern Song Dynasty over a period of almost 2,000 years. In the Qin Dynasty, these wares were referred to as "Piu Chi" (greenish white porcelain). In the Tang Dynasty, they were called "Tisn San Chui Sig" the greens of a thousand mountains), or "Pei Sig" (pale bluish green). But it was not until the late South Song Dynasty (1219 AD) that celadon glaze was finally and successfully developed after extensive research. Celadon glaze originated in the Long Chuen County in Zhejiang Province. The particular quality of the minerals in the mud and the special formula of the glaze led to the production of various shade and tone. People love celadon glaze as it looks like jade and turquoise. Antique porcelain wares in this category are often sold at very high prices in world-wide auctions. They are the treasures of antique collectors and the connoisseurs. Variation in the celadon glaze is available, such as engraved, embossed and crackles pattern. The celadon glaze needs to be fired at the temperature between 1,250oC and 1,280oC.

TOBACCO LEAF
This extravagant design was originally made in China, probably for export to the Portuguese and Brazilian markets. Of all the 18th-century dinnerware patterns, this was the most highly prized. A small phoenix bird perches on the leaves of the flowering Nicotiana (Tobacco) plant. Twenty-seven colors and 22k gold make up this pattern based on an original in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
